Should You Go Direct to an Insurance Company?
By: Rajesh Jyotishi
Many people believe that if they go direct to an insurance company to purchase their life and health insurance they will save money. Most of the time this is not true…
With exception of some very select companies and products, the rates that are offered by an insurance company are generally the same whether you buy your insurance from an agent or go direct to the company. The rates will also be the same whether you purchase from one agent or the other. A competent agent can be your greatest ally when purchasing your insurance. Especially when the agent represents several companies!
For example, if you call up Blue Cross or Kaiser directly, they will certainly be able to help you make a smart decisions when it comes to their own products, but very rarely will they recommend their competitor’s products.
We try to understand your needs first. Find out what type of benefits you are looking for and make recommendations based upon your needs. Because we represent Blue Cross, Kaiser as well as many other companies for health insurance, and dozens of other companies for life, disability and long term care, it
really doesn’t matter to us which companies you choose, as long as we are doing the right thing for you. Our main objective is to help you find the right products that fit your needs. After all, if you are happy with us, you will stay with us and refer your family and friends.
It is important to recognize that the company that offers the best rate today may not be the best company a year from now. This is why we try to establish relations with you and make you aware of new products as they are available.
Rates should not be the only factor in deciding coverage nor am I suggesting you need to change coverage and companies each year. As a matter of fact, insurability and pre-existing condition clauses need to be fully understood when deciding to make changes. Otherwise you may find yourself in a dangerous position where you could be without any insurance and unable to obtain new coverage.
When was the last time you shopped the market to see what is available? Give us a call and in a few minutes we will help you determine what is available and help you make intelligent choices.
